Future Leaders Incubator
A primary focus of MJR Love Inc. is to support Miss Major Middle (MMM), the first LGBTQ+ affirming public charter middle school in NYC. Our collaboration with the Future Leaders Incubator centers on professional development for aspiring teachers from underrepresented backgrounds. This work prepares educators with the tools necessary to create inclusive classrooms that affirm the identities of all students.
Developing a diverse and representative teacher workforce is essential for fostering inclusive educational environments where all students can thrive. Research shows that students perform better academically and socially when they see themselves reflected in the identities of their educators. By investing in aspiring teachers from underrepresented backgrounds, particularly those identifying as LGBTQ+, we can create a more equitable education system that supports all students.
PFLAG NYC
We seek to expand our partnership with PFLAG NYC to provide essential resources and training for educators. We are engaged in ongoing planning conversations with PFLAG and NYCPS, and together we are uniquely positioned to address this urgent need. Our broad network includes community leaders, local schools, and advocacy organizations (including our Trans+/ Queer Advisory Council). Together, we are committed to addressing the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ youth and educators to create a more supportive and just educational landscape.
Additionally, expanding PFLAG’s current programs to educators within NYC Public Schools is crucial for equipping teachers with the knowledge and resources they need to effectively support the growing number of LGBTQ+ students. PFLAG’s expertise in training and fostering understanding in adults will enhance professional development opportunities, ensuring that educators are not only allies but also active champions for inclusivity in their classrooms. Together, these efforts will empower both teachers and students, creating a more compassionate and supportive school culture.
